Moonshot – A poem

Intricate calculations and incredible odds,

To land between carters and the place of gods.

Sharp spectacled people in white inspect

The rover, the craft and the last-minute check.

The date is set, the sky is clear,

Prayers are recited so clouds don’t appear.

Thrust of the sun and Journey of thousand miles

Within seconds, it flies, it flies, it flies.

Far Below in a trusted room, its voyage is tracked

Pride, intelligence, hope, and triumph stacked.

Fifteen minutes of terror and centuries of science

It reaches and descends for its place in history to find.

The leap of faith and a test unkind,

An unknown error and the prayers declined

It rejects the messages and misses the spot,

We will try again promises the dejected lot.
